Negative Space Heart Mani

Hi folks! Just a quick little update with a mani I’m particularly excited about. I adore Gelish’s Lots of Dots polish, and thought I’d do something fun with it in today’s Negative Space Heart Mani. I just love this cutout look, and thought it would be a great place to pop in some confetti glitter.

Gelish Lots of Dots Heart Mani

I hadn’t really tried nail art with gels prior to this, so I’m particularly happy with the way they turned out! To achieve this look, I followed the basic guidelines set up in this tutorial:

The difference is that I used a solid color because it’s much easier than stripes and I’m just a little lame like that. If you’re not a video person, though, the basic steps for the art itself are as follows:

  1. Outline your shape with your base polish/outline color.
  2. Fill in the color around the shape, leaving the inside of the shape open.
  3. Repeat the process until you’re happy with your polish opacity.
  4. Cover with a topcoat.

The fun thing about negative space manis is that you have a lot of fun possibilities to play with, like covering the base with a pattern, then creating a shape over it so the pattern peeks through.

I hope you’ll give this fun style a try, and if you do, share it in the comments!
